Q&A and Bio

WHY IS THIS ALBUM SPECIAL TO YOU?

  • It’s like a dream come true to record an album of a certain standard, and to work with and learn from one of the world’s best musicians and producers, Phil Naish.
  • I was able to do one of the things I love, which is singing.
  • I was able to sing and share the songs that are greatly meaningful and have impacted my life.
  • Throughout the time in making the album, I’d doubt and sometimes even wonder why God would even bother to spend time and effort on me, and “Who am I that He’s mindful of me?” Yet He reminds me that He’s my creator and has made me special in Him. He never gave up on me, though I can be pretty hopeless sometimes. He nurtured me, built me in character, and blessed me in knowing and experiencing Him more.

WHAT DID YOU LEARN MOST OUT OF MAKING THIS ALBUM?

What I really appreciate from making this album is learning to take and live a day at a time, do my best and just be faithful in what I’ve been entrusted to do. God doesn’t need me to achieve anything for Him, yet He chose to involve me, and bless me with the opportunity to take part in something wonderful that He has anointed.

The most inspiring thing which spurred me on, especially in times of doubt, was when God showed me that what this album will achieve is not of the main importance. Yet, it was whether I’m willing to believe in and respond to what God was showing me and doing in my life. To respond by taking this album on with the courage that only He can give, and then work through it faithfully.

HOW THEN DID GOD GIVE YOU THE COURAGE?

It’s mainly through His promises. These are promises I hold on dearly and it’s through them that I know nothing He leads me to do will be in vain. And that He’s the one who’ll make the difference.

“…He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” ~ Phil 1:6 ~ (NIV)

“As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.” ~ Isaiah 55:10-11 ~ (NIV)

Faith’s major influence in singing…
Barbara Chen , Faith’s mom, singing teacher and mentor.

Born to music loving parents, (her mother is a well regarded Mezzo Soprano) it is to the satisfaction of many that Faith Chen has finally brought her considerable talents to a wider audience through the release of her album, "My Redeemer Lives".

Influenced by a diverse cultural background, (having lived in Spain, the US and Hong Kong) Faith brings a freshness to an album that includes many well loved worship songs as well as three of her own compositions.

"All three are very special to me" says Faith. " 'The Most Beautiful of All' was written for my brother's wedding. It expresses the perfect love that satisfies and changes life; it's the ultimate love that one can find in knowing and experiencing God as their lover. As for (You Brought Me Back), this powerful message from Isaiah gives me tremendous assurance and strength to know that wherever I'm at in life, God's love, acceptance and compassion follow. I feel most honored to have had Phil Naish write the music for it. The third of the songs,  (Your Kingdom Come), was written at a time when there was a lot of chaos and instability in the world and uncertainty in the lives of people around me. God impressed upon me that He is still the Lord of the universe and is the beginning and end of all things. No matter how everything is, those who belong to Him are in good hands. We are to seek after His will and kingdom continuously."

Songwriting is something that has taken Faith by surprise, but nonetheless, a very pleasant surprise. It's an area she has found increasing passion in. To her, singing and songwriting has been one of the ultimate forms of worshiping and encountering God.

So, what of the future? As she herself says; "to continue to sing and compose as long as God wills, and to let Him bless all the people He intends to bless through the music He gives me. Most importantly, I hope the songs will be a joy to His heart. "

Her new album is a testament to God's work in her life and it is our hope that there will be many more to follow.
